Unlike last year, FFG is attempting to be as upfront about their World Championship Event Weekend as possible. On Monday, they released a very detailed look at the cost of the event, some of the prizes, and the entire event schedule (side events not included). But does it repair the damage dealt from last year’s event?
Out the gate, FFG is quick to (somewhat) address the prize structure. We did learn, via Team Covenant (ie, FFG South), that the prizes for each event this year will have something for Top 16, Top 8, and Top 4. When FFG’s Steve Horvath was drilled for a specific answer on whether or not Top 16 would receive a playmat (a very specific point of contention from last year’s events), he failed to reply with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’. All we know for certain right now, is that every player who registers for Worlds will receive a ‘swag bag’ containing the following items:
– Deck Box (can only hold 100 sleeved cards)
– One alternate art card for every event being held
– 2015 World Championship Weekend t-shirt
The article does mention that the typical ‘design a card’ prize support will be a prize for each winner of each event.
One big change this year is that there will be no on-site registration. In previous years, you could pre-register for the event online, or talk to a friendly FFG employee at the door to get set up. By doing away with this element, FFG has remedied the giant task of having 2-4 employees working on just signing up registrants.
Registration will begin on June 15th, at 12pm CST. Players will immediately see four payment options for entry:
$60 – Entry into any one event, plus all side events
$70 – Entry into any two events, plus all side events
$80 – Entry into any three events, plus all side events
$90 – Entry into any four events, plus all side events
To note, at the time of registration, players must choose which event(s) they are going to play in. Each event is capped for participating, so if it fills up before you have the chance to sign up – tough potatoes. Make sure to log in on June 15th at 12pm CST so you don’t miss the boat! (pun intended)
The Star Wars LCG event begins Thursday, November 5th at 10am CST. Players who make the Top 16 are to come back Friday, November 6th at 12pm for the elimination rounds. The full event schedule can be found here!
